Breakout Sessions

INSPIRE offers a range of breakout sessions designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to create positive change. Topics cover essential leadership, advocacy, and communication skills, as well as practical tools for organizing, public speaking, and using social media effectively. Students will have the opportunity to choose two sessions from a diverse selection, with personalized schedules provided upon arrival.

  • Defining Your Leadership Style

    Presenter: Charlie Rose, Senior Vice President and Dean, City Year

    In this session, explore the different styles of leadership and discover what type best aligns with your strengths and values. You'll gain tools to define your personal leadership approach and understand how to leverage your unique abilities to inspire and lead others effectively.

  • Organizing 101: Basics of Organizing and Coalition Building for Social Change

    Presenter: Angelica Fontes, Senior Manager, Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Capacity Building, Health Resources in Action

    Learn the fundamental skills for grassroots organizing, from building coalitions to mobilizing support. This session will give you a framework for driving social change, whether you're organizing a local event or leading a community-wide initiative.

  • Truth in the Feed: Tackling Misinformation and Using Social Media for Social Change

    Presenter: Dr. Greg Payne, Chair, Department of Communication Studies, Emerson College

    Social media is a powerful tool for activism, but it’s also a breeding ground for misinformation. In this workshop, learn how to identify misinformation and develop strategies to use your platforms for positive, informed social change.
